Barbara R. Rist

MILFORD, CONN.—Barbara R. Rist, 84, formerly a lifelong resident of Vermont, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007. She lived with her daughter’s family in Milford for three and a half years.

She was born in Easthampton, Mass.; March 21, 1922, to the late Erwin and Clara Yaw Lewis.

She was raised in Randolph. She married Robert D. Smith, also of Randolph, and started her family there. She often spoke with affection of her years there and the many friends and relatives she had.

She was employed at the Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden and at Freeman’s Jewelry Store in Rutland for many years.

Survivors include a son, Douglas Smith and wife, Vicky, of Addison; a daughter, Susan Mooney and husband, Brian, of Milford, Conn.; a sister, Gloria Anderson of Rutland; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her former husband, Robert D. Smith of Rutland, Vt., and Melbourne, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two husbands, Alston Swan and Harold Rist; and five sisters: Florence LaMere, Grace Greenia, Hazel Tyburski, Lena Tanner and Alice Lewis.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Vermont. The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Ave., Milford, Conn., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
