Eric M. Clark

RICHMOND, VT./COCOA BEACH, FLA.—Eric M. Clark, 78, formerly of Granville, died January 8, 2007 at his home in Florida.

He was born in Swanton November 8, 1928, the son of George and Rojean (Shand) Clark. He attended school in Swanton and graduated from Burlington High School in 1946. He spent many summers working at Camp Abnaki and the YMCA in the winter. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army, 2nd Armored Division.

Following his return from Germany, he was employed at the Howard Bank and during this time he met Charlotte Louise Kennedy, whom he married October 31, 1953 in Barre. She predeceased him in 1989. 

He was employed by the Colchester School District until his retirement as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. He was very proud of being involved with the building of the Colchester Junior High and Colchester High Schools.

He and his wife also operated Sunset Harbor Motel and Cottages on Malletts Bay for many years. He ran the Last Run Pub at Bolton Valley and enjoyed his time at Bolton Valley Resort serving on the ski patrol for many years. 

After retirement, he and his wife relocated to Granville and he was involved in the restoration of the Hancock Inn. When renovations were complete, they opened "Christmas and Things" which they ran together until his wife’s death. He was also active in local government serving on the Board of Civil Authority, as a lister and selectboard member, and chairman of the Granville Selectboard.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Burlington and the Burlington Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen Clark and husband Kurtis of Richmond; his son, Jeffrey Clark and wife Patricia of Williston; and his grandchildren Jay, Charlotte, Ian, Ethan, Michaela, and Kaitlin.

He was predeceased by his sister, Connie Jarvis; and brother, Raylan Clark.

Funeral services took place January 16 at the First Congregational Church in Burlington. Burial followed in Colchester Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Camp Abnaki, c/o YMCA, 266 College St., Burlington, Vt. 05401; or to the Colchester High School Scholarship Fund, Laker Lane, Colchester, Vt. 05446.
