RANDOLPH–Medora B. Ferriter, 86, of Randolph, died Thursday morning, Jan. 11, 2007 at Mayo Health Care in Northfield. She was born December 14, 1920 in Marshfield, N.C., the daughter of William A. and Martha (Browning) Dicus. She was raised in Clinton, S.C. and attended Clinton schools and Winthrop College. She worked for the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the Army Attache in Pretoria, South Africa. Later, she worked at the American Embassy in Cairo, Egypt where she met and married Thomas J. Ferriter. They moved to Burlington in 1960, and then to Randolph in 1963, where they purchased the Grant Bettis Oil Company. This became the Ferriter Oil Company, which they operated together until 1993. Her husband died in 1998. She was a member and secretary for many years of the United Church of Randolph, Randolph Women’s Club, Randolph Senior Bowling League, and Montague Golf Club. She volunteered for Randolph Area Hospice and the Randolph Food Shelf. She enjoyed golf, bridge, bowling and traveling. Survivors include her son, William J. Ferriter of Marshfield, Mass., a daughter, Mary E. Ferriter of Randolph Center; a sister, Kathryn J. Dicus of Clinton, S.C.; four grandchildren: Thomas J. Sheltra of Randolph Center, Kathleen B. Sheltra of Northfield, Medora L. Ferriter of Marshfield, Mass., and Mary K. Ferriter, also of Marshfield, Mass.; nieces, nephews, and several cousins. She was predeceased by her infant son, Thomas J. Feritter Jr., and brothers, William A. Dicus Jr., and James Browning Dicus. At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours. Services will be private in the spring at the convenience of the family, with burial at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, P.O. Box 1139, Montpelier, Vt. 05601. Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home in Randolph. ____________ |
