Joyous Japanese Exchange Program

We would like to express our gratitude to Anna Sease and Dean Meltzer (advisors), the RUHS administrators and school board members, and the Randolph community for supporting the Randolph Shizukuishi Exchange Project.

Last week, we had the honor of hosting Saori Hara, a 14-year-old girl from Shizukuishi, Japan. We quickly found out that her English was much better than our Japanese. Determined to communicate, we relied heavily on a dictionary and translator to learn about her and her culture. More powerful than words was her smile which meant "I understand, I like or I am familiar with."

It was sad to say good-bye, but our hearts are filled with love and respect for a polite young woman who lives thousands of miles away. We hope than many more families can participate in this program and experience the joy it brings.
