Sounding Joy! Youth Chorus

Invites New Singers

The Sounding Joy! Youth Chorus will begin its spring rehearsal season this Monday, Jan. 22 at the Randolph home of director Marjorie Drysdale. New singers are welcome.

"We have a great time together," director Marjorie Drysdale said this week. "Children, ages 6-9, will rehearse Mondays, from 3:15- 4 p.m. The older group, ages 10-14 will rehearse from 4:15 to 5.

Over 250 people attended Sounding Joy!'s recent Twelfth Night Multicultural Celebration, where the Youth Chorus joined the Sounding Joy! adults to sing and dance their way into people's hearts. The packed house gave the performers a standing ovation.

This term, the chorus will continue building its repertoire of Spanish folk songs. And, for something completely different, they also will sing a medley of American do-wop songs from the 1950's.

Drysdale is planning a few trips to supplement the chorus's activities, including one to the Shelburne Museum this spring.

"I've been in contact with the museum," said Drysdale, and they will be happy to provide a tour guide for us at the 1950's house, who will tell us all about life in America in the 50's. Of course, we'll also have time to explore the house, and the rest of the museum."

A trip to the Lebanon Opera House for a children's performance of "Sol y Canto" ("Sun and Song") on May 4 is also a possibility, as is participation in a residency with classical guitarist Brad Richter.

Interested young people, ages 6-14, may contact Marjorie at 728-3734, or by e-mail: marjoriedrysdale@innevi.com.
