Lady Royals Beat Thetford
By Monica Parshley

On Thursday, Jan. 4, the South Royalton girls made SoRo history, beating their Thetford rivals for the first time in a decade with a score of 41-37. The girls played good defense the entire game.

Things got heated during the fourth quarter of the game. SoRo had kept ahead until Thetford took control with only a minute and a half left. Callie Jozefiak boosted SoRo’s score with a phenomenal three-point shot soon after, and helped save the game with a total of 11 points in the quarter.

The top scorers for the Thetford Academy were Kaitlyn Godfrey with 13 points, and Maria Cole with 10 points. For South Royalton, the top scorers were Callie Jozefiak with 21 points and Sophie Roy with seven.

South Royalton plays Thetford twice more this season, and their coach Dennis Cronan reported that he hopes this win promises a future trend. The girls’ next game is today, Thursday, Jan. 11, at 6:30.
