Tough Season
For Bethel Boys
By Laurie-Jean B. Gauthier

With 2006 a bust for the Hornets (0-6), 2007 can only get better we hope as the winless team faces stiff competition at the outset. On Tuesday, Jan. 2 the Hornets faced the Danville Indians and it was the Indians in control posting a 60-25 over their hosts in Bethel.

The Hornets traveled to South Ryegate Tuesday, Jan. 9 and faced Blue Mountain Union. Whitcomb is scheduled to play the Concord Wildcats tomorrow with the time TBA, and they travel to South Royalton on Monday, Jan. 15 to face the D-III Royals at 6:30 p.m.

In a rebuilding and restructuring year it has been difficult to watch the Hornets as they struggle to defeat their opponents, but it has been fun watching boys who have never played before get the chance to do so. It is always tough when you lose all your starters to graduation, while those left behind are the players who got little or no playing experience, but are expected to lead the team to victory. It truly is a "no win" situation. Hopefully by season’s end that will have all changed.

The Hornets finished 2006 on the road in the CVK/MVL Challenge at the College of St. Joseph in Rutland. The Hornets fell to first Proctor 70-27 and then to Black River 81-49 in the challenge. Hornet Cody Griffin had 8 points in the Proctor game, while Griffin and Deven Hill both scored 10 points in the Black River contest.
