The Chelsea Lady Devils traveled to the Sharon Academy Thursday the 12th and came away with a devastating loss. Unfortunately, Chelsea came out flat and Sharon came out strong to lead the whole game. Chelsea attempted a comeback late in the fourth quarter, but foul trouble and time put then to a disadvantage. When the final buzzer sounded Sharon had a 19-point lead to win the game.

Chelsea vs. Concord

Last Saturday the Chelsea girls hosted Concord for a 46-31 win. Chelsea came out with a strong start as the Lady Devils dominated the boards and took advantage of the fast break. Chelsea led the entire game with steals, lay-ups and rebounds.

Jill Cray tallied 11 rebounds and was high scorer with 17 points. Mary Childs, Sam Bonesara, and Robyn Kennedy all notched 8 points each respectively.

Loss to Rochester

The Chelsea Red Devils matched up against the Rochester Rockets in an intense game Tuesday. The Red Devils came out to a patient start as they took the first possession. But it was Rochester that put in the first bucket, although Chelsea never let up.

Chelsea played an impressive 1st quarter, with Sam Bonesera scoring Chelsea’s first basket. Chelsea continued to dump them in to score 10 points and held Rochester to six points giving Chelsea the four-point lead into the 2nd quarter.

Unfortunately, Rochester’s impressive press and tough defense held the Devils scoreless as Rochester dumped in 12 points to give them the 18-10 lead at the half. The Lady Devils didn’t give up as they worked at closing the gap. Working the fast break, Mary Childs chipped in six points as Robyn Kennedy, Heidi Hatch, Lindsey Smith and Bonesara pushed the ball up the floor. Chelsea tied the game up in the third, but Rochester put in two more baskets to give them a four-point advantage into the final period of the game.

Chelsea continued to apply pressure in the fourth, narrowing Rochester’s lead to three points. In the final minutes of the game, Rochester made crucial lay-ups and steals to extend their lead beyond Chelsea’s reach. Rochester went home with the 51-38 win over Chelsea, despite Chelsea’s hustle and hard work.

Kennedy and Hatch were Chelsea’s high scorers with 10 points each and Bonesara chipped in 6. Chelsea’s record falls to 4-3 and they will travel to Rivendell on Thursday.
