Surprise! Rochester Couple’s Son Born (Quickly!) at Home

By Martha Slater

Bob Moramarco and his wife, Lori Newcomer, of Rochester are the proud parents of their fourth child, a boy, who arrived in a big hurry in the early morning hours of January 2.

When Lori woke Bob to tell him she was in labor, he knew time was of the essence, since the birth was scheduled to take place at the Alice Peck Day Birthing Center in Lebanon, N.H. Quickly bundling the couple’s three older children (Zoë, 11; Sammy, 8; and Jesse, 3) and Lori’s suitcase into the car, Bob raced back into their house on Kennedy Drive at 2:45 a.m., only to find that the new baby was not in the mood to wait.

Lori’s mom, Ann, was on the phone with 911, and after another quick sprint outside to bring the kids back in the house, Bob delivered their new little brother at 3:07 a.m. He weighed exactly 8 lbs. and measured 21 1/2 inches from head to toe. Midwife Melissa Deas and a crew from the Valley Rescue Squad arrived soon afterward to check out Lori and the baby.

"Everyone was very excited!" Bob told The Herald, adding that the new little boy, who has yet to be given a first name, will share the last name of Newmarco (made by combining parts of the parents’ last names) with his three older siblings.
