Meeting Set

A public information meeting will be held Wednesday, Jan. 17 to review the proposal by the Department of Corrections to open a work camp for non-violent offenders.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Old Dorm Lounge at Vermont Technical College.

The proposed work camp is still in the early talking stage, and selectboard members say they have received considerable input already, with opinions fairly evenly divided.

The state wants to create a second work camp similar to the one that opened several years ago in St. Johnsbury. The camp, the department says, allows inmates to learn valuable skills, working on regional projects for towns and non-profits, while they serve their time.
