White River Craft Center Classes Starting this month, Randolph’s White River Craft Center will offer an exciting and varied mix of classes for the winter and spring. Many of the classes are starting in January and those interested in participating should register now before the classes are filled. To register call 728-8912 or check out www.whiterivercraftcenter.org for photos of class projects, information on instructors and to download a registration form to be mailed to WRCC, 50 Randolph Ave., Randolph Vt. 05060. •Wood Carving, a class for both beginning and intermediate wood carvers, for three Wednesdays starting Jan. 10 from 6-9 p.m.. Beginning students will carve a five-inch song bird and learn techniques in holding safety and carving using primarily a sharp two-inch knife. The bird will be painted, antiqued and mounted on a butternut or walnut block base. Students who have experience will work on more advanced birds, animals or people. Tools are provided. •Felted Hat or Felted Wall Hanging. Learn the felting process and make a colorful one of a kind hat or wall hanging. Sign up for this class and the wall hanging for two fun workshops. Bring any fun yarn you have if you would like to incorporate it into your creation. Felted Wall Hanging: Sat., Jan. 13 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Felted Hat: Sat., Jan. 20 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. •Weaving: An Introduction & Open Studio, for the beginning weaver or those who need a basic review, for six weeks starting Jan. 15 from 6-9 p.m. on Mon. & Wed. Instruction will be given about how to use a loom, measurer a warp, dress the loom and weave a sampler of different weave patterns, yarns and colors. Prepare and interpret weaving drafts, plan a project of your own choice from beginning to end, and discuss resources that will enable you to continue weaving at home. •Adult Ceramics, a beginner/intermediate class for adults and teens 16 and older, starts Jan. 16 and continues for six weeks on Tues. from 6:30-9 p.m.. Learn handbuilding and throwing techniques such as slab, pinch, tiles and texturizing. •Knitting Workshop. Bring any unfinished project and we will help you move towards completion. This class is also appropriate for knitters who have basic skills and want to start a project beyond the scarf. Bring all your supplies for your project and we’ll go from there. Starting Jan. 16 for five Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. •Stained Glass. Students will learn basic skills such as glass cutting, design, soldering, leading and finishing. They will construct a small leaded glass window, class starts Jan. 16 for 10 weeks on Tuesdays from 6-8:30 p.m. •Improve Your Art Skills. Choose to work in pen & ink, watercolor or acrylics and receive the coaching you need. Starting Jan. 18 for six Thursdays 6:30-8:30 p.m. •Sharpening. Learn to sharpen your woodworking tools. Bring your old rusty tools and recondition them. One session: Sat., Jan. 20 from 12 Noon–5 p.m. •Sculptural Needle Felting: Create a one-of-a-kind snowman while learning to needle felt. You need to sign up for this class before Jan. 19 as some materials may have to be ordered. This single class is Sat., Jan. 27 from 9 a.m.–12 noon. ____________ |
