The Randolph Singers have just been selected to be an official representative of the State of Vermont in performance at "America’s 400th Anniversary Weekend," commemorating the founding of the Jamestown settlement in Virginia, America’s birthplace. The Randolph Singers conductor, Piero Bonamico, was informed of this selection last month based on outstanding recommendations of his music program. The Singers will begin rehearsing the music for this program on Tuesday night, Jan.16 starting at 6:45 at the Baptist Fellowship church on Route 66. The program will be performed in Randolph, too, so Singers need not be committed to the Virginia trip in order to join. Conversely, non-singers will be invited to take part in the Jamestown adventure, if they wish. Those interested may contact the conductor at pbonamico@mac.com. Members of the Randolph Singers will perform in the anniversary's signature event, a finale musical performance to take place on Sunday, May 13. This concert will include nationally recognized talent, and plans are to provide national television coverage. Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor will serve as honorary chair of the anniversary weekend. A choir of 1,600 singers will perform alongside an orchestra of 400 for this event. In addition to being part of the festival choir, the Randolph Singers will also have the opportunity to perform a stand-alone performance. While visiting in the historic "triangle area" (Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown), the choir will be able to sightsee in many historic places. There will also be opportunities to view other anniversary-related events. The goal of the organizers is to include at least one musical ensemble from each of the 50 states to participate in America’s 400th Anniversary Weekend. |
