John Picarello

BETHEL-John Picarello, 90, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

He was born June 4, 1916 in the Bronx, N.Y. the son of Vincent and Michelina Picarello. He attended schools in the Bronx.

After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1934-36. When WW II started, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with the 1st Marine Division in Guadalcanal. Following his discharge from the Marines, he returned home to New York and attended Columbia University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology. He later graduated from the New York School of Chiropractic.

He married Yolanda Delli-Vernneri October 31, 1948 in the Bronx. He worked in the financial department at the New York Times for many years. The Picarellos moved to Bethel in 1993.

Survivors include his son, Greg Picarello and wife, Deb, of Stockbridge; a brother, Ramon Picarello of California, a sister, Carmela Groszewski of the Bronx, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Danielle and Christopher Picarello; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, two brothers, Carmine and Michael Picarello; and a sister, Natalina Robinson.

Private graveside services will be held at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gifford Fund, PO Box 2000, Ran-dolph, Vt. 05060.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home of Randolph.
