The South Royalton girls’ basketball season has started with a bang. On the first of December, SoRo played at Twin Valley, losing by just five points, and a final score of 55-50. Twin Valley’s high scorers were Tarryn Bolognani with 27 points, and Brandy Sporano with 14 points. SoRo’s top scorers were Chelsea Wilmot who scored fourteen points and Mairi Lamson with 10. The next game on December 5 was a victory on the home court for the South Royalton girls, winning against Peoples Academy 41-23. The top scorers for SoRo were Callie Jozefiak and Jane Manby with 10 points apiece. Peoples had Maya Carter with 11 points. The third game on Friday, Dec. 8, was another close game for the Lady Royals who played at Mt. Saint Joseph. SoRo lost 48-42. The high scorers in the game for Saint Joseph were Katie Reisterer with 15 points, Melanie O’Routee with 14, and Danielle Comstock with 10. For South Royalton, the top scorers were Jozefiak with 10 points, Lamson with nine, Manby and Amanda Tibbets, six points apiece. The varsity coach, Dennis Cronan had this to say about his team. "After our first three games, we know what we need to work on and we’ll get better as the season continues." South Royalton’s next game is on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Chelsea. The girl’s varsity basketball team consists of seniors: Anneke Van Fossen, Chelsea Wilmot, Mairi Lamson, Sophie Roy, Amanda Tibbets; juniors: Ashley Rogers, Heather Burbine, Callie Jozefiak, Melissa Cole, Jane Manby, Alex Honkala; and freshman Megan Whitcomb. ____________ |
