Ghosts Wrestle in Tourney
This past Saturday the Randolph wrestlers competed in their first tournament of the year at St. Johnsbury. Wes Simpson started out his day with a win against Jacob Losse from Essex. Simpson defeated Losse with a minor decision of 9 to 6. In semi’s Simpson wrestled Justin McQuaid from Hollis Brook Line, he finished this match with a win of 1 to 0. Wrestling in his first finals match of the year, Simpson wrestled Kyle Edmonds from Spaulding, but was defeated with a score of 5 to 2. Simpson placed second. The other place finisher from Randolph was Seth Dezan. Dezan’s first match was against Sebestian Reynolds from Smithfield. Dezan defeated him with a pin time of one minute, 39 seconds. In his next match Dezan defeated his opponent from Spaulding with a pin time of one minute, 54 seconds. In semi’s Dezan was defeated in the last period by Heath DeVoll from Noble. Coming back to win his next two matches, Dezan defeated Ian Wiltshire of Newfoud and Craig Drummond from Otter Valley, giving him a third place finish. Other Matches Freshman Matt Simpson began his first high school tournament with a tough match. He wrestled Kevin Lynch from Hollis Brook Line and was defeated with a score of 6 to 0. Simpson received a forfeit in the next round. Coming back to win his next match Simpson defeated Tyler Graham from Mount Mansfield with a pin time of 3 minutes, 52 seconds. In consi quarters, Simpson was defeated by a Rutland wrestler in the last period. Wrestling at 130 lbs. was David Maxfield. He began the day wrestling Shawn Kimball of Mount Abe, but was defeated with a major decision of 11 to 2. In his next match Maxfield wrestled Jason Farris of White Mountain, and won by default due to an injury. Now in consi quarters, Maxfield wrestled Pat Archeambault from Hollis Brook Line, but was defeated in the second period. Stephen Bent wrestled at 160 lbs. and his first match was against Mike Summner from St. Johnsbury, but he was defeated in the first period. In his second match Bent wrestled Dane Lonchay of Smithsfield but was defeated by a pin. Ben Adams had a bye in the first round, and then wrestled Erik Becker of Otter Valley defeating him with a pin time of 5 minutes, 43 seconds. In semis, Adams wrestled first seed Jesse Rayworth from Noble, but was defeated in the last period. Moving to his next match, Adams wrestled Matt Lynch of Hollis Brook Line, but was defeated in the second period. 100th Win Last Wednesday the Ghosts went to Spaulding for a dual meet against Spaulding and Milton. At this meet Ben Adams received his 100th career win. Ben is a senior at Randolph Union High School and has been wrestling for several years. He has worked hard towards this accomplishment. Adams’ older brother, Josh, was also a wrestler, but ended his career with 99 wins, due to the bus breaking down on the way to a match. ____________ |
