Larrabee’s Latest Poetry Book
Is ‘Shoveler on the Roof’

Phyllis Rachel Larrabee is a poet, playwright, storyteller and grandmother. Her latest book, ‘Shoveler on the Roof," includes poems and a song "Silver Mountain Sky," written while she lived in Rochester back in the 1970s, when she often drove over Bethel Mountain Road to Randolph, in her job as a community organizer.

Her first collection of poetry in 1974, "Old Leaflets for Shopping Lists and Rashly Written Poems," received a favorable review from the Small Books Editor of the Washington Post.

In 1975, Larrabee fell in love with Vermont and came here to live with her two sons. She has written 17 collections of poetry since and a number of plays. In 1980, she received an award from the Vermont Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1984, she was a co-producer of "Poets Arising," a show that dramatized poetry with music performed by noted Vermonters Michael Arnowitt and Patti Casey.

Larrabee’s poem, "Informal Logic" was illustrated by artist Janet Fredericks and became part of a traveling exhibit in New England. She has also been a programmer for WGDR com-munity radio, in Plainfield. In recognition of the quality of "Shoveler," Larrabee was the first recipient of the Grace Paley Scholarship Fund for Vermont writers.

Larrabee read last month at the Rochester Public Library and is looking forward to reading in Randolph in March. "Shoveler on the Roof" is on sale at Seasoned Books & Bakery in Rochester.
