VSO ‘Fiddlesticks’ String Trio The Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s "Fiddlesticks!" String Trio will present three performances in three area elementary schools Wednesday, Dec. 20. The concerts are made possible with help from the Albert F. and Hilda Woodruff Gollnick Fund, the Rochester Chamber Music Society, and the Rochester and the Stockbridge schools. The trio will begin that day with a performance at Bethel Elementary School at 8:45 a.m., and then perform at the Rochester School (where the Stockbridge School students will join them) at 10:30 a.m. The musicians will then head four miles north to perform for the students at the Hancock-Granville Village School (the performance will take place at the Hancock Town Hall) at 1:15 p.m. The VSO’s traveling ensembles visit all corners of the state as part of an outreach program known as "Musicians-in-the-Schools." These lively performances are met with overwhelming enthusiasm, as the musical ambassadors spread the word that classical music can be fun! Members of "Fiddlesticks" are longtime members of the VSO David Gusakov, of Bristol, violin; Hilary Hatch, of Orwell, viola; and Bonnie Klimowski, of Fairfax, cello. They also bring "Godzilla," the bass fiddle, with them! Their dynamic performances are designed to introduce children to the most important members of the symphony orchestra and to make some of the key concepts in classical music-making come alive. The December 20 performances are part of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s statewide SymphonyKids education program, which reached nearly 26,000 schoolchildren last year with 167 performances for 158 schools in 132 different communities.
