‘D. Young Arts’ Shop Opens
On Randolph’s Merchants Row
By Martha Slater

Dwain Young, who has been a goldsmith and silversmith since 1982, has opened a shop, "D. Young Arts," at the corner of Merchants Row and Pleasant St. in Randolph village. Young is selling his original jewelry designs at the shop and is also looking to expand his inventory to include the work of other Vermont artists and artisans.

The public is invited to attend a celebratory open house there Friday, Dec. 15 from 6-9 p.m., and Young expects his new sign, made by Rule Signs of Beanville Rd., will be in place by then.

After growing up in Maine, Young moved to California, where he learned his trade and lived in the San Francisco Bay area for over 20 years. He moved to Vermont last February to be with his future wife, Sonja Laiho, and the couple now makes their home in Randolph Center.

"I’m really happy to be here," says Young, who is looking forward to getting to know people in the Randolph area.

In addition to the pieces of jewelry offered for sale in the shop’s gleaming glass display cases, Young will do custom work and repairs. He creates his pieces using wax casting in silver and gold.

Until after Christmas, D. Young Arts will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. After the holidays, Young says he expects to be open five days a week, with slightly different hours. He is also willing to meet customers by appointment. The shop phone number is 728-4400.
