Randolph boys basketball coach Bruce Viens returns to his 31st year of coaching with a veteran team, sort of. The Guy Ghosts do have seven seniors on the squad this year, just one less than the big class of 2005-06, but of those seven, just three were firm members of last year’s squad; Mike Czok, Ira Tillberg and Conner Fowler. Those three anchor this year’s team, joined by seniors Markus Farnham and David Dube who split their time between varsity and J.V. last year. Joining the team after taking their junior year off are seniors Cody Montgomery and Derek Riley. Returning junior Thomas Jacobs will again be a force under the boards, and although he has lost some bulk over the summer, he has been in the weight room, powering up for the new season. Jacobs is joined by fellow juniors, Kyle Connolly who played on both teams last year and guards David Cooch, Zack Allard and Josh Ferris. The other member of the Guy Ghosts team is sophomore Jon White who will also be handling the ball and has the added advantage of being left handed. A whole slew of Randolph’s players ranger from 6 foot to 6’2", with Farnham standing at 6’4", giving the team an advantage in the back court. Coach Viens feels that "We’re going to be a team that is going to take some time, but we’re going to continue to improve. These guys work very hard and our bench looks like it will be deeper this year. They’ve improved a lot just from the first scrimmage to the second one we had on Saturday." Coach Viens will be assisted by Jeremy Rilling and Scott LaFreniere this year. Returning to the J.V. coaching spot is Mike Czok and the freshman coach is Mark Fowler. Ron Allen will again be coaching the seventh and eighth grade boys. The Guy Ghosts open their season with home games vs. Northfield, Dec. 5 and Peoples Dec. 7. J.V. games begin at 6:00 p.m. with varsity following at 7:30. ____________ |
