Randy Leavitt, who took last week's front page photograph of tree work being done on the Vermont Law School campus, has some information to add this week. There was a squirrel in that tree; you can see it in the photo. It jumped shortly after the shot was taken. It fell all the way to the ground Lots of folks on the ground were covering their eyes and cringing. The squirrel hit, bounced a little, and bolted up the next tree over. I was about the only one to see where it went. So they opened their eyes, thinking it was going to be squirrel-pie, but it was gone. I said "he's up there" to great astonishment from the assembled crowd. I'm sure squirrels hate that when it happens but it is quite common that they take a flying leap ... and miss. An apt metaphor for most of us—aye, good thing we can bounce a bit. Randy Leavitt South Royalton |
