Barnard’s Katrina Relief Project Collecting Donations for Holidays Barnard Helping Hands and Lukana’s Dream have issued a two-week challenge to all neighboring communities and schools, as they continue to reach out with their Katrina Relief Project. Help is needed to fill a 48-ft. trailer with unwrapped new, or in excellent condition, clothing, toys, gifts small appliances and furniture. "These survivors have had little reason to believe that they have not been forgotten," says Kim Furlong of the Barnard General Store. "When Helping Hands went to Gulf View Elementary School to deliver the outdoor classroom, which was the result of our original Katrina Relief goal, we were the first group to deliver on a promise of help to their community. Your efforts are deeply appreciated by all who benefit from your generosity." Furlong notes that Pearlington, Miss. will have a holiday celebration December 16, and "Our goal is to send enough specific, nonperishable canned food to fill 50 holiday baskets, all sizes of new fall-weight clothing and toys for all ages, and the above mentioned items. We have details and a specific wish list of requests from individual families at the Barnard General Store. Please stop by or call the store at 234-9688 for details or if you would like to sign up for a specific item." Furlong adds that, "If you don’t have time to shop, we would gratefully accept your financial donation and do the shopping for you." All gifts are tax deductible. Donations will be collected at the Barnard General Store and St. James Church in Woodstock through Dec 10. The truck will be pulling out of Barnard December 12. ____________ |
