After Much Ado, Randolph
Will Have 'Welcome' Signs

After years of planning and frustration, it looks as though "Welcome to Randolph" signs will be sprouting up.

Now all the Chamber needs is business donations to produce and place three signs.

"Finally, we have all the pieces in place and are ready to move," said a letter from Chamber President Joe Boyd. "This venture has required a substantial amount of planning and design work, cooperation from landowners, approvals, and permits from the town, and now we just need the final bit of financing."

All three of the signs will feature the Morgan Horse, which was chosen as a suitable symbol for the town where the original Morgan became famous.

Instead of placing the signs on the approaches into town, the signs will grace the centers of Randolph Village, East Randolph, and Randolph Center. For instance, the Randolph Village sign is planned for the vicinity of Gazebo Park.

"The concept is somewhat unique to Randolph and will be a distinctive aspect of our welcome signs," noted Boyd.

The unusual placement solves two problems. First, the signs will be prominent and easier to read, since cars are driving more slowly. Second, there are so many approaches to the various villages that trying to put a sign on every approach would be expensive and difficult to get permits for.

Boyd gave special credit to former Chamber President Marty Strange "for his hard work and perserverance." Indeed, what may seem a simple measure has been a chore that has demanded exactly those qualities.
