RACC Scholarship Tournament The Randolph Area Chamber of Commerce’s first fundraiser for the RACC Scholarship Fund was a success. A bowling tournament and raffle held Saturday, Nov. 4 at Valley Bowl in Randolph attracted 95 players in teams of five, and each bowled three games. Their scores were combined for placement and the top three teams won a cash prize, based on a payout for one out of every eight teams participating. First place went to Gutter-Dun sponsored by CFM, Corp. with 3270 pins (Jim Angel, Gary Bradley, Larry Ponte, Wendy Smith and Craig Woodward). In second place were the Boneheads with 3221 pins (Josh Smith, Andy Bent, Craig Woodward, Bruce Tabor and Trevor Tabor). A close third place went to the Lucky Strikes with 3220 pins (Jeff Irish, Curtis Bingham, Waldon Kilmer, Elmo Poland and Pinker Patterson). Major raffle prize winners included Rick Goodall, who won a laptop computer donated in part by Vermont Computing. Mark MacDonald won Red Sox tickets from Milne Travel, Marc Aaron won Dartmouth women’s hockey tickets donated by Dartmouth Athletics and Joe Boyd won a Vermont Teddy Bear donated by the Vermont Teddy Bear Company. A 50/50 raffle draw was also held. To make the competition more fun, teams were encouraged to design a team t-shirt. The winners were Luck O’ the Irish, first place; Champs Tramps, second; and Team Herbalife, third. Arny Spahn judged the t-shirt designs and registered all the participants. The team sponsors included Ben Franklin, CFM, Corp., Chittenden Bank, Compucount, Firetec Apparatus Sales, Gary Irish, General Contractor, Edward Jones, Brent Kay and Randolph National Bank. Businesses that donated directly to the scholarship fund were Curves, CVPS, Ferritor Oil and Northfield Savings Bank. Sign sponsors were Chittenden Bank, Maple Cake Farm, Rule Signs, Randolph National Bank, Randolph Village Pizza, Valley Bowl, Vermont Technical College, The Herald, Robert J. Gauthier Real Estate, Green Mountain Floor Store and Lucky’s Trailer Sales. The door prize donors were Ben Franklin, Champ, Randolph Technical Career Center and Valley Bowl. Wayne Warner donated his expertise in helping to organize this first-time event for the chamber and other volunteers who sold raffle tickets and assisted in many other ways. The RACC Scholarship was established to support a Randolph Technical Career Center student in furthering his or her education. Robin Poulin of Randolph was announced as the first recipient earlier this year. Contributions may be made to Randolph Area Chamber of Commerce, P. O. Box 9, Randolph, Vt. 05060. ____________ |
