Nelson S. Stearns

WHITE RIVER JCT.—Nelson Scott Stearns, 57, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct., VT, after a short battle with cancer.

He was born July 4, 1949 in Randolph, the son of Delbert M. and Norma L. (Parrott) Stearns. He attended Whitcomb High School in Bethel, and then served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He married Sherry Collins in 1971. Upon his return from the service, he went to work for the Veterans Administration in White River Jct. and then Ethan Allen Lumber, spending several years at each place. He was best known for his carpentry business that served the Upper Valley.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #26 White River Jct. He was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. He also enjoyed bowling and spent many nights on bowling leagues.

He is predeceased by a sister, Myra Lee; and his ex-wife.

Survivors include his two daughters, Katie Stearns Luce of Winterport, Maine; and Shelbie Wells of Sterling, Va.; five grandchildren, a brother, Bruce Stearns of Bethel; a sister, Marilyn J. Stearns George; a step mother, Mabel Stearns and a step-sister, Joanne Trombley, both of Poultney.

A memorial service will be arranged privately by the family. Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. assisted with the arrangements.
