Deer Season Memories

I do hope and pray now that hunting season is upon us that deer hunters will be careful. Last year I remember during youth hunting, a little deer was shot and it weighed only 60 pounds, and no doubt it was a little fawn.

I remember in the fall of 1951 my dad got his first deer. He was so excited he couldn't stick it to bleed so I had to do it. My dear Mom said, "A deer is coming up in the little field" and Dad didn't even have his shoes on. He went out in his stocking feet. He said I'm going to get one next year too. Well, God had other plans for my dear Dad as the following year in July 1952, my Dad went Home to Heaven. To this day I remember it like it was only yesterday.

My dear brother got one after he got out of the army in 1945. It weighed 175 pounds and some neighbors saw it, thought it would be tough, but it wasn't.

My brother gave some to a friend and the friend said it was the best beef steak he ever ate. Made my brother laugh and he never did tell him it was venison.
