Chandler Artists’ Roundtable At Gallery Next Tuesday This Tuesday, Nov. 14, marks the second event in a new "Artists’ Roundtable" series at the Chandler Gallery on Main St. in Randolph. The event will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The subject for Tuesday’s event, "How Photography and Travel Can Expand Cultural Awareness and Help the World ‘See Eye to Eye,’" combines the themes of photography and high school exchange programming. The panel will include notable local photographers such as Ethan Hubbard and Wink Willett, Anna Sease and student representatives from the Randolph-Shizukuishi Exchange program. Whitcomb High School senior Maya Robinson, who curated the current gallery show, "Seeing Eye to Eye," which spotlights the photographic expression of cultural exchange through the eyes of the student; will be featured, along with additional Rotary and American Field Service exchange students. Linda Morse will moderate the discussion. In keeping with the new tagline for The Chandler Center for the Arts, "where the arts and community meet," the Chandler Gallery Committee hosted its first Artists’ Roundtable in conjunction with the recent Local Artist Winners Show, "Selections," in September. The panel was made up of Lois Jackson, Gene Parent, Kevin Harty, Bruce Small, Pat Harrington, Sandra Pealer, Lew Hartman, Nina Gaby and teacher Joan Feirabrand. Board member Linda Morse moderated. Nina Gaby, who has hosted such discussions in the past, both at Chandler and in her own gallery in Brookfield, spearheaded the initiative with great support from the committee. "Both the art on the walls and the mysterious process of creating the art becomes more accessible to the viewer," Gaby noted. "By providing discussion during a specific show, we encourage the viewer to connect with that process by asking questions and giving voice to their own thoughts. And from a practical point of view, a series such as this really gets people into the gallery." ____________ |
