McKeever Play Wins Award

The fall "New Writer’s Festival" of The Author’s Playhouse in Bay Shore, Long Island, chose the one-act play, "Home Again, Home Again," penned by longtime Vermont resident Kilda McKeever, for the second prize in a field of six new plays.

McKeever, who recently returned to Vermont, after a hiatus of two years, submitted the play on a whim, after completing a Master’s course with playwright and humorist Jules Feiffer.

McKeever says that the adage, "write what you know" led her to write about the trials of returning to her childhood home to care for an ailing parent. Part comedy and part pathos, the play is her first effort at playwriting. She has a degree in journalism from Johnson State and wrote for The Herald as a correspondent for many years.

"Home Again," was directed at the Playhouse by Kevin Ploth who has directed plays such as "Othello," and "Little Shop of Horrors," and currently has a film "Nothing But Net," now screening at the East Village FilmFest in New York City.

The play was chosen from those submitted to compete with five other one-act plays.

The Author’s Playhouse then produced each submission onstage with a cast and director. The audience then was asked to vote. The top three were restaged and audiences then voted for the ultimate winner.

The Playhouse, located on Long Island, has a long and distinguished history of presenting full professional productions of favorites as well as providing a platform for new and untried authors.
