SOUTH ROYALTON—Rosemary "Rozo" McLaughlin, 54, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 15, 1952 in South Royalton, the daughter of Joseph C. and Dorothy (Wall) McLaughlin. She attended school in South Royalton, graduating in 1969 from South Royalton High school. She also attended Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center in 1971 and Reed College in Oregon from 1972-73. For over 30 years, she operated the Hitching Post Horse Farm in Royalton. For the last four years, she represented the towns of South Royalton and Tunbridge in the Vermont State House of Representatives. On June 21, 1997 she married Tom Wells. They lived all their married life in Royalton. She was a member of the Green Mountain Horse Association and the U.S. Eventing Association. She was a Royalton School Board member from 1994-98 and served as Royalton Selectwoman from 2000-03. She enjoyed horses, politics, skiing (both cross country and downhill) and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, of South Royalton; her daughter, Katie Berk of South Royalton; a brother, Philip McLaughlin of Norwich; three sisters: Ellen Chap of South Royalton, Ann McLaughlin of Strafford, and Karen McLaughlin of Pennsylvania; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Calling hours will be held Thursday, Nov. 2 from 6-9 p.m. at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home on Main Street in Chelsea. A funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at the Hitching Post Farm on Back River Road in Royalton, with the Rev. David L. Wolfe officiating.
