MacDonald Takes
Time To Listen

I like a legislator who listens, then acts, in that order. Senator Mark MacDonald has again spent his late summer and fall out listening to constituents. He takes what we tell him to heart.

In January, he'll use the information he's gained going door-to-door. The bills he votes on, and the solutions he favors, benefit from the stories and concerns we share with him in September and October.

Mark doesn't view the campaign as just a marathon exercise of trying to persuade folks to vote for him. He actually uses the knowledge, stories, concerns, even jokes we share with him to do his work in Montpelier better.

When he listens, he gets from us our priorities and worries. He learns how we think, and how we'll be affected by everything from a tax reform proposal to a state mandate to a universal health care initiative.

By visiting with us in our dooryards and in our kitchens, Senator MacDonald does his homework. Then later in his chair in the Senate, Mark uses that knowledge from back home as he considers how a bill will affect people whose faces, families, and home situations he has taken with him.

As I said before, he listens, then acts, in the right order.
