For the past 4-1/2 years I have had the pleasure of serving on the Bethel Select Board with Neal Fox. During this time Neal has guided the Board through many challenges as our chair, a position he reluctantly accepts when appointed annually. I have witnessed first hand his concern for the diminished affordability of living in our State as well as his work in the arena of economic development, two areas seemingly forgotten by Montpelier as of late. Neal’s abilities to work with all parties in order to find consensus on issues, as I have seen him do during deliberations within our board, is much needed in this current climate of legislators appearing to put party politics ahead of common sense solutions. His ability to carefully consider the ramifications of those decisions is greatly needed in a legislature that seems to "shoot first and ask questions later". Indeed, through his work as executive director of the Green Mountain Economic Development Corporation, as well as the countless hours he spent lobbying officials for a reduced local share for the Church Street Bridge project, Neal is no stranger to the State House. He will be uniquely qualified to hit the ground running when he arrives as our representative and I am delighted that we now have this opportunity to send such a fine leader to Montpelier.
