The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin Coming to Chandler Music Hall

The Russians are coming—again! Chamber Orchestra Kremlin will perform Sunday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m., at Chandler Music Hall in Randolph.

This small, energetic chamber ensemble from Moscow performed a memorable concert at Chandler six years ago and again in the fall of 2005, and area chamber music fans will welcome the group back to the hall on its 2006 North American tour.

Continuing the year-long celebration of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Centennial, the ensemble will perform his Symphony for Strings, Opus 118bis, which is a version for string orchestra of the String Quartet #10, arranged by Misha Rachlevsky, Orchestra’s music director. Also on the Chandler program will be J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins, BWV 1043 and the Serenade for Strings by Tchaikovsky.

Founded in 1991, the orchestra, comprising some of Russia’s finest young string players, has carved a niche for itself under the creative baton of its founder and music director, Misha Rachlevsky. Whether it is the highly-acclaimed CDs or its mesmerizing concerts, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin’s warmth and high energy create addictive performances that stay with listeners long after the last note has been played.

Chamber Orchestra Kremlin has earned national and international recognition as one of Russia's leading ensembles. A critic in American Record Guide writes: "Rachlevsky’s 17-piece string orchestra is a brilliant one, solidly rehearsed and led with an uncommonly creative sense of music making...Not only is Rachlevsky a sound musician; he’s a gifted showman. too."

With more than a decade of excellence under its belt, a devoted audience at its home base in Moscow, an awards-winning CD catalog of over 20 CDs, and an increasing demand for performances internationally, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin is now in its second decade of concerts, festivals, recordings and touring.
