Lady Ghosts Finish Strong The Randolph Lady Ghosts finished their season with excitement, against tough competition, as they hosted the number 1, 2, and 3 seeds in Division III. Randolph came out with a loss, a tie, and a well-deserved win. In looking back on the regular season, Coach Bruce Viens was optimistic: "We had an identical record in the first and second half of the season, but played much tougher teams in the second part. This has prepared us for play-offs." Tie with Stowe On Wednesday, Randolph faced Stowe and came out with a 1-1 tie. Both teams were evenly matched, each getting some nice offensive opportunities. Junior Amanda Gerstenmaier scored the goal for the Ghosts, on an assist from teammate Holly Mugford. The Gal Ghosts were very aggressive throughout the match. Sharayah Nonemacher had 14 saves for Randolph. Win over Marauders Randolph played Northfield for the second time that week on Friday, and was successful in avenging their previous loss, winning 3-1. Senior captain Brynn Fabian put in the first goal off of a direct kick in the first half. Up 1-0 at halftime, Coach Viens encouraged his team to stay hungry offensively. The Ghosts did just that, as senior captain Emily Howe scored in the second half, and later junior forward Erika Smith added one of her own. Howe and Smith also assisted each other. Randolph looked like a completely different team from their first meeting with the Marauders. Northfield’s only goal came in the second half. Sharayah Nonemacher was a real force in the goal for the Ghosts, saving 18 shots. With the win, the Lady Ghosts knocked Northfield out of first place in Division III. Loss to People’s The last game of the season, and also Senior Day, Randolph hosted Peoples Academy, but could not pull out the win. The final score was 2-0. A couple of mistakes were all it took for Randolph to get behind in the game. Randolph senior goalie Sharayah Nonemacher had another strong performance in the net, stopping 12 shots. Randolph ends the regular season with a record of 4-8-2 and their first play-off game will be on Monday. Coach Viens says he looks forward to the post-season. "We’ve played better in the past two weeks than we have all season. In play-offs, it’s a new season. Everyone starts 0-0. We’re ready." ____________ |
