Split Final Week

For the second time this season the Hornet boys’ team was toppled by the Bucks as Blue Mountain shut out Whitcomb in Bethel one week ago. Entering the game undefeated BMU nabbed their 10th straight victory with the 4-0 win.

A first half goal at 6:29 by Felix Rommel put the Hornets in the hole and the Bucks in control and leading at the break. Goals at 6:29 and 14:13 and again at 39:09 scored by Shane O’Donnell-Leach, Keith Page and C.J. Smith, all unassisted, completed BMU’s tally.

Sharing net tending duties for the Bucks, Smith and Tom Cole combined for 5 saves, while Hornet Joel Wright made 21 saves.

Win for Whitcomb

Senior Recognition was a very wet rainy day as the Hornets hosted the Rockets in their last game of the regular season.

Seniors form both schools were recognized before the game started, with four Rockets, Brian Dunbar, Cullen Haskins, Ethan Lanphear and Lucas Pelletier acknowledged first followed by the five Hornet seniors, Cody Griffin, Joe Kill, Scott Killian, Nathan Tipton and Brian Ward. After the pleasantries it was the Hornets in control.

Whitcomb scored their first goal at 9:42 when Tipton put an unassisted orb in the net. Less than four minutes later at 12:25 Evan Abbott put one in off a Ward assist. The Hornets completed their tally at 25:25 with help form the Rockets as the ball went in off one of their own for a goal with Tipton earning an assist. Whitcomb held a comfortable three goal lead at the half.

Rochester cut the Hornet lead by one just one minute and fourteen seconds into the second half when Tanner Haskins scored unassisted. That was all Rochester managed as Whitcomb led 3-1 at the whistle earning their sixth victory for a 6-6-1 season.

Liam McKinsey had nine saves for Rochester and Scott Killian had 14 saves for the Hornets.
