Lady Hornets End Regular Season With a Strong 9-4 Record
By Laurie-Jean B. Gauthier

Ah! Sweet revenge. The Whitcomb Lady hornets hosed the Blue Mountain Lady Bucks and made a come-from-behind victory, winning, 2-1.

With center halfback Demi Aldrighetti doing her job and that of everbody else it seemed, Whicomb managed to stay in the game for 35 plus minutes as the Bucks attempted to break through the Hornet defense. But 21 seconds later the Bucks showed Whitcomb that they had other plans when Leah Desroches took a pass from Marissa Gagnon and scored, putting BMU out in front.

Whitcomb didn’t let that bother them as they returned to the game ready to play and 10 seconds before the six minute mark Tracy Zisselsberger delivered. Zissels-berger planted the ball deep in the left corner of the net when she kicked the ball in off a perfectly executed cross for the unassisted goal and a tie. Molly Taylor gave the Hornets their second and eventual winning goal at 37:20 when she scored off a direct kick sent by Chelsie Brown.

Kayla Thibault had 8 saves for BMU and Maggie Eddy had 14 saves.

Loss To Rochester

It was wet, wet, wet when Whitcomb welcomed Rochester in Bethel Tuesday, Oct. 17 for Senior Recognition Day. All seniors from both schools were honored before taking to the field.

The six seniors from Rochester are Sam Cutting, Heather Gorton, Molly Harvey, Jody Martin, Erica Parker and Libby White. The five Hornet seniors are Chelsie Brown, Maggie Eddy, Kerstin Kraeutlein, Maya Robinson and Tracy Zisselsberger.

Then it was game on as both teams took to the field with Whitcomb hoping to avenge their season opener loss to the Rockettes. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be as Rochester stung the Hornets in their own back yard, 3-0. Rochester didn’t waste much time as they scored just two minutes forty-five seconds in when Libby White scored off a Caitlyn Cutting assist putting Whitcomb in the cellar early on. Whitcomb and Rochester battled each other through thirty-five plus minutes of play after that, but it wasn’t enough as White scored again at 38:16 with help from Desi Bourassa sending the Hornets on break scoreless and trailing.

Rochester struck one last time at 4:53 when sisters Sam and Caitlyn Cutting combined for the third and eventual final goal of the game. Sam scored and Caitlyn assisted. Rockette Jody Martin did and outstanding job earning 14 saves from 13 shots and 1 corner kick. Maggie Eddy finished the game with 7 saves for Whitcomb.

Whitcomb finishes the regular season 9-4.
