Vote To Get Out? I have been active in a nation-wide initiative, The Declaration of Peace, which calls for an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq. We have been trying to understand our Congressmen’s votes in support of funding for the Iraq War, especially when they all say that they want the troops out "as soon as possible." We have two questions for Rep. Sanders: Why did he vote for $70 billion to prolong the war in Iraq, and why did he vote for the Iran Freedom Support Act which has been called by Dennis Kuchinich "a stepping stone for the use of force in Iran"? Despite the vaunted accessibility of our candidates, we’ve found that, although it is not hard to ask a question, it is very difficult to get an answer. We’d like to be his supporters, but its unseemly to give kneejerk support to someone who votes for war. Robin Lloyd Burlington |
