SoRo Kindergarten Students Enjoy Visit to Local Firehouse The South Royalton Kindergarten classes visited the South Royalton Fire Department last Thursday as a part of Fire Safety week. Captain Mabey invited the classes to come experience some of the aspects of a firefighter’s job and to learn some new ways to practice safety awareness. The students learned how to "Stop, Drop, and Roll," to stay low when there is smoke in a room, and to not play with matches or lighters. They also were shown the clothing and equipment that the firefighters use when there is an emergency. The kindergarteners were given a tour of an ambulance and they climbed onto a fire engine. One of the highlights of the trip for the kids was when they were able to spray a real fire hose. The students were each given a red fire hat and a packet of information to take home with them. Teachers Mrs. Judge and Mrs. Harrington, and all of the kindergarteners are grateful to firefighters Knudsen, Quillia, and Captain Mabey for allowing them to come to the station and for taking the time to teach them all of the new fire safety tips. ____________ |
