At Home in the Theater:
Josh Turk Dances Through Life
By Josh Turk

Whitcomb High School Senior Josh Turk, who was featured in the reality show "Made" a year ago, teaches adult dance classes in Randolph.

From a young age, I have made my home in the theater. I auditioned for my first musical at the age of six. It was for the White River Valley Players’ production of "Annie" and I was cast as Sandy, Annie’s ragamuffin dog.

Since that first audition, I have been in numerous musicals and have attended theater camps all over central Vermont. I was one of the only kids my age who enjoyed going to performances of Shakespeare. My mother would even take me down to New York City once a year to see Broadway shows. These experiences taught me many of my performing skills. I have been taking dance classes for several years now.

This theater background has made me the person I am today. Being in the the theater taught me self confidence and gave me skills in public speaking. As I approached my high school graduation, I decided that it would be fitting to do a project that effectively showcased the skills I have learned over the years.

I set out to put together a dancing and singing show. I knew that I wanted to include performers from the various groups I had performed with. After many hours, I am happy to be presenting my show at Chandler Music Hall in Randolph on this Saturday evening. The show features performances by me, as well as Jess Quindlen of Hartford, Grace Chris of Hartford, and Muriel Garner, Matt Messier, and Sam Graham from Randolph. We have put our time and sweat into making this show the best it can be. I hope we can fill the theater! The dances have been choreographed by Karen Amirault, Karen Crossley, Jess Quindlen, and myself. They are high-energy Broadway style numbers sure to please.

I hope you will come to see "Dancing Through Life" on Saturday October 21 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
