A few days after Christmas the Ghost wrestlers were back in action, wrestling in a two-day tournament in Middlebury. The competition started around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. David Maxfield started out the day wrestling Nick Goodrum from Mount Anthony’s B team. He was defeated in the third period. Maxfield went on to wrestle Shane Lefebvre from Harwood, but was defeated. Nick Small began the day with a win, pinning Matt Sherlaw from Harwood with a fall time of 2 minutes, 39 seconds. In quarters, Small wrestled Josh Thomas from CVU, but was pinned in the second period. Small’s next match was against Pat Bishop from St. Johnsbury. He defeated Bishop with a minor decision of 5-3. In consi-quarters Small wrestled Vendan Patel but was pinned in the second period. Next up was Stephen Bent wrestling in the 145-pound weight class. His first match was against Jack Nuland from Ridgefield. Stephen was pinned in the second period. In his next match Bent wrestled John Durfee from Fair Haven, but was pinned. Adam Kenyon wrestled in the 215-pound weight class. His first match was against Steve Whitney from Middlebury. Whitney pinned Kenyon in the first period. Kenyon then wrestled Larry Cole from Mount Anthony’s B team but lost in the second period. Dezan Gets 4th Seth Dezan started out the day with a pin against Milton’s Josh Bergeron. In quarters Dezan faced Matt Morris from Ridgefield and pinned him in one minute, eleven seconds. Moving on to semis, Dezan went up against Chris Davis from Fair Haven, but was defeated with a decision of 9-6. Moving to consi-semis, Dezan defeated Roberto Nicolia in the third period with a fall time of 3 minutes, eleven seconds. In consi-finals, Dezan wrestled Mike Dennison but lost by a minor decision. Dezan took fourth in the tournament. Simpson Has a 2nd Wesley Simpson wrestled in the 112 pound weight class and went on to place second at the tournament. Simpson had a bye in the first round so that put him in quarters. His quarters match was against Bill Trask of Mount Anthony’s B team. Simpson pinned Trask with a fall time of 38 seconds. In semis Simpson went up against Kyle Ehnthold from Granville, pinning him in the second period. In his finals match Simpson wrestled John Majka from Mill River, but lost by a major decision. Adams Finishes 3rd Ben Adams had a bye in the first round as well, putting him up against Danny Grey from Fair Haven. Adams won his first match 12-0. In semis Adams wrestled a tough match against St. Anthony’s, but lost in overtime. In his consi-semis match Adams faced Mitch Jackman and pinned him one minute into the second period. His final match of the day was against Josh Birchmore from Granville. Adams won 6-3 and took third place. Tom Kirkpatrick wrestled the first seed and was pinned in the first period. Coach Dumont saw improvement in his second match, although Kirkpatrick lost. James Wright’s first match was Nick Desiodon from Middlebury. Wright was pinned in the first period, moving on to win against Ethan Furton of Mount Anthony’s B team and Mike Gardner of Essex pinning, both of them. In consi-semis Wright wrestled Andrew White and lost with a minor decision. In his final match of the day, Wright wrestled Scott Little from Milton but lost by disqualification. Tuesday night the Ghosts had a home meet against CVU. The goal of the coaches was to get in as many matches as they could and to get everyone at least one match.
