SoRo Boys Beat Proctor, Hornets

Over the holiday break the South Royalton Royals had two games and came away winners in both of them to improve to 5-1. The first of those games was at VTC for the MVL/CVL Challenge against Proctor, which was won by a score of 54-50. The second game was at home against Whitcomb where the Royals held their Banner night in the Royal Palace to celebrate all of their Championships from 2005, starting with Boys Basketball, Baseball, Boys Track, and Girls Runner-up Track. The Royals were able to come away with a 60-48 victory over the Hornets.

Win v. Proctor

On Thursday the 22nd the Royals took on Proctor at VTC and finished the two game sweep of the MVL/CVL Challenge after a 54-50 victory. The Royals came out to a 13-10 first quarter, but Proctor tied it up at 22-22 going into the half with a 12-9 second quarter.

The Royals came out and won the third quarter by five, 20-15, which was all they would need for an edge going into the 4th at 42-37. The 4th quarter saw a one point decline in the Royals’ lead as Proctor scored 13 to the Royals’ 12 for a 54-50 SoRo win.

"We were never really challenged, but they never gave us much more than a four-point lead," Coach Jeff Moreno said.

Jordan White led the Royals with 17 points, 15 of them coming in the 2nd half, 16 of them coming from the floor and 1 from the line. Dave Manning added 13 points of his own.

Win vs. Whitcomb

On Thursday the 29th the Royals played their second home game of the season vs. next door rivals Whitcomb and came away winners on their big Championship recognition night with the score of 60-48.

The Whitcomb Hornets came out with a lot of intensity and scored the first 11 points of the game. D. Manning scored the first two of the game for the Royals 3:55 into the first. At the end of the first quarter Whitcomb led 21-11, but from there it was all Royals as they won each quarter after that.

The second quarter saw a 10 point difference decrease to four points. Whitcomb led at the half but the Royals scored 16 to the Hornets 10. The score at half was 31-27. D. Manning kept the Royals alive as he had half of their first half points with 14.

The third quarter saw the Royals and Whitcomb switch spots on the scoreboard as the Royals got their own six point lead after a 18-8 quarter in which Nick Enright put in six points and Ki Walker added four. The Royals held Whitcomb to a 9 point final quarter as they scored 15 to win by 12, 60-48.

Manning hit a total of 10 shots from the floor for 20 points after a 14 point 1st half. Walker added 14 points of his own with a great second half where he put in 10. Enright had 13 points.

After a strong first quarter by Whitcomb where they put up 21, the Royals defense was able to hold them to 27 the rest of the game while they scored 49 points. On the other side Whitcomb’s Ryan Barrows led all scorers with 21, 13 coming from the floor, one of them a three and 8 from the line as he went 8-16. Ted Mills put nine points on the board in the first quarter but finished with only 10 points.

The Royals (5-1) took on Thetford @ Thetford Wednesday night and play Northfield at home on Friday the 6th .
