The Rochester girls have kept up their intensity, winning two more games against Concord and Bethel, making their record 7-1. To end 2005 Rochester traveled the extremely long bus ride up to Concord, showing that the trip didn't hurt them at all they started with a lot of intensity. With a pretty even first quarter, the score was 11-9, Rochester, at the end of the first. The second quarter was Rochester's explosive offense quarter where they outscored Concord 17-4, making the score 28-13 at the half. Sam Cutting had quite a few tricky drives to the basket and snagged a few lay-ups while Jody Martin helped out with a few outside shots. Another key point for Rochester was that Concord's power center had three fouls at the end of the first quarter, which left the middle open. In the third quarter Rochester continued to play good defense and held Concord to only six points. Again in the fourth quarter, Rochester held Concord to only six points and ended the game strong 47-25. Win over Hornets Rochester's next game was at home against Bethel on Jan. 3. Rochester had trouble getting into this game, partly because of a lot of sickness on the team and key starter Sam Mishkit couldn't play because of an injury. All that aside they lagged in the first quarter but towards the end of the first half they started to pick up their offense and changed their defense that worked in their advantage. With Rochester down 18-14 with only a few seconds left in the first half Jody Martin hit a key outside shot that changed the tempo and put Rochester only down by two at the half. With a huge offensive third quarter, Rochester outscored Bethel 10-5 and put themselves up 26-19 at the end of the third. Rochester kept it up in the fourth quarter with a few sweet give-and-goes for easy lay-ups for Cutting. Rochester kept it in their favor and held their lead to win 36-27. Rochester's highs scorer's were Martin with 11 points and Heather Gorton with 8. Rochester's next game is this Saturday at home against Concord at 2:30. By Dayna Bourassa |
