The Randolph Guy Ghosts had three games last week. They travelled to Bristol to take on the Mt. Abe Eagles Tuesday night and took the loss, 64-52. Friday Randolph played Lyndon away and brought back the 70-57 win and last Wednesday they beat Northfield at home, 63-47.

Mt. Abe Game

The Ghosts had trouble keeping to their game plan Tuesday but played well in spurts. Mt. Abe surged ahead several times but the Guy Ghosts managed to come back each time except for the very end of the game.

The first quarter started with Zac Briggs and Mt. Abe’s #35, Kevin Labas exchanging several baskets with Mt. Abe holding a slim 5-4 edge. Another Labas hoop and and exchange of treys between Gareth Fabian and Mt. Abe had the Eagles leading at the end of one, 10-7.

Mt. Abe led off the second period with four points but Ben Alicea knocked in a pretty shot from downtown, Tim Grandy made a free throw and Alicea hit again from beyond the arc for a tied, 14-14 ball game. The game retied at 16 but a trey from Mike Czok and good defense and steals from Grandy had Randolph looking good.

The Eagles took advantage of the Ghosts turnovers to score four in a row for the brief lead, 20-19. Kevin Currier’s free throw retied the game yet again but seven unanswered points by the Eagles ended the half in their favor, 27-20.

The Guy Ghosts came back in the third with a string of seven off an inside shot by Briggs, a three-pointer by Fabian and a steal and lay-up from Alicea. With the game reknotted 27-all, the Ghosts continued to pour it on with hoops from Grandy and Alicea. Mt.Abe came back yet again for another tie, 31-31, and then continued to score until they held a four point edge. Fabian stopped the stampede with a jumper but that was matched and then bettered by the Eagles, who clung to a one point advantage, 39-38 headed into the final stanza.

Mt. Abe led off the fourth with seven unanswered points. Currier hit two from the charity stripe and then scored up close, followed by a Grandy steal and lay-up. Randolph had cut the gap to two, 46-44 before the Eagles went on a 9-1 run to pull back ahead, 55-45.

The game got pretty rough un-der the boards but despite another free throw and hoop by Currier the Eagles were able to keep the game out of Randolph’s reach. Grandy ended the game with a trey and a jumper but the Eagles walked off with the 12-point victory. Mt. Abe’s high scorers were Labas with 21 and #22 Nick Terrien with 16.

Scoring for Randolph were Alicea with 14, Grandy 11, Fabian 10, Currier 8, Briggs 6 and Czok 3. Briggs also had 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Lyndon Game

Randolph handily won versus a tough Lyndon team, 70-57. The Guy Ghosts held an 18-point edge with four minutes to go when Lyndon’s big gun Sackett hit pay dirt from downtown,. Sackett hit three treys in a row and had 16 of Lyndon’s 19 fourth quarter points.

Coach Bruce Viens said, "It was a read good game. Gareth played good defense on Sackett all night and held him pretty good. Those three pointers he made were from way out there!"

Fabian led Randolph’s scoring with 20 points, Currier added 18, Briggs 9, Alicea had 8 points and 9 assists and Paul Bianco had 6 points.

Northfield Game

The Guy Ghosts used team scoring to beat Northfield last Wednesday, 63-47. Eleven players on Randolph scored with 23 points coming off the bench.

Randolph jumped out to a quick 18-7 lead after the first quarter and although the momentum seem to swing to Northfield in the second, behind big gun Jeff Pemberton, the Ghosts held a good edge headed into the halftime break, 32-25.

Randolph came back from the break fired up and outscored Northfield 20-6 in the third. Fabian started the third with two technical free throws after the Marauders coach made a mistake with his scorebook. The Ghosts scored 11 unanswered points before the Marauders broke the ice at the 5:27 mark. Randolph led 52-31 by the end of the third quarter.

Currier led off the fourth with a trey and Coach Viens did a lot of subbing in the final stanza with no noticable change in the scoring. Northfield’s Pemberton kept scoring but Randolph swept through to the end and the 15 point victory. Pemberton led Northfield with 20 points and Ryan Knapp had 10.

Fabian led Randolph’s scoring with 14 points, Alicea had 11, Currier 9, Bianco and Connor Fowler had 6 each, Grandy and Ira Tillberg each had 4, Thomas Jacobs had 3 and Briggs, Matt MacAskill and Chad Russo each had 2.

Randolph plays People’s at home today and then faces Mt. Abe at home Friday, Jan. 13. The Guy Ghosts’ record is 6-2.

J.V. Boys

The J. V. boys also lost to Mt. Abe after staying close for three quarters, 59-41. The high scorers were Kyle Connolly with 14, Zack Allard with 10 and Jon White with 8.

The J.V. squad had a sizable lead for most of the game versus Northfield and won, 61-30. Nine players scored with the leaders being Connolly and White each with 12 and Allard with 11 points.
