Richard E. Taylor

PITTSFIELD—Richard E. "Dick" Taylor, 83, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005 at his home in Pittsfield.

He was born February 22, 1922 in Pittsfield, the son of Preston and Lottie (Coburn) Taylor.

He attended Pittsfield schools and then served in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer with the 79th Infantry Division during World War II in the European Theater. After the war, he returned home and married Katherine "Alice" Moore July 26, 1946 in Castleton.

He worked for Eagle Square (now Stanley Tools) in Stockbridge and Pittsfield, as a logger and woods foreman, retiring after 33 years of service. His memberships included Martin Fales Post #43 of the American Legion in Hancock, as well as the V.F.W., and he was a charter member of the World War II Memorial Society. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in the woods as a logger.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Lester of Williford, Ark.; two sons: William Taylor of St. Mary’s, W. Va.; and Steven Taylor of Rochester; a sister, Evelyn Oliver of Rutland; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, as well as a brother, Lawrence Taylor; a sister, Lottie Bagley; four half-brothers: Harold and Seldon Taylor and Wyman and Frank Robinson; and a step-sister, Hope Aubey.

Graveside services will be held in the Pittsfield Village Cemetery at a later date. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home of Randolph.
