A new question haunts every scheduling decision for the Randolph Selectboard these days:

When is Heather going to have her baby?

Board member Heather Tallman is due to have her fourth child soon—very soon, it's evident—and the board was trying Tuesday night to schedule events so as to let her get some rest before her duties resume.

Heather's due date is April 2, she said Tuesday night. But it's not known if the baby agrees.

Giving birth while a member of a Selectboard is certainly a first for this Central Vermont area—it was only recently that women began to serve on selectboards. The Herald was unable to determine yesterday whether a selectbabe has ever been born in Vermont before.

Selectboy or Selectgirl? Heather knows and her doctor knows. But nobody else knows, including her husband Gary.
