Ambassador for Vt.

Persistence paid off for Suzanne Benoit, daughter of William and Mary Benoit of South Royalton, as she was named Vermont’s Young Agriculture Ambassador for 2003 at the Vermont Farm Show Jan. 29. Benoit, who was sponsored by the Vermont Guernsey Breeders Association, has been involved in showing cattle for many years, and works on an area farm.

"Suzanne has shown a lot of growth," said Jackie Folsom of the Vermont Farms! Association, one of four judges, who has known Benoit for years. "We were impressed with her love of farming and her grasp of the big picture."

Denise Russo, a marketing specialist with the Vermont Department of Agriculture who was also a judge, concurred.

"Suzanne really saw the whole picture, and I was really thrilled when she said she rushes home to get her homework done so she can go do chores on a dairy farm."

Benoit will act as a spokesperson for Vermont agriculture throughout the year and will appear at fairs and field days across the state.
