Revote Unpopular
But Necessary

The South Royalton school budget passed this year with around 8% voter turn out. This is better than some years, previously, where much small percentages turned out.

So why float a petition for a revote?

Several citizens approaches me to ask if I would spearhead such an unpopular initiative. The 4250,000 increase to just under $4.5 million total galvanized them into action. This is a large request when measured against an economy that is rapidly "going south."

Forty two Vermont towns shot down their budget requests this year as a form of peaceful protest of Act 60. Act 60 is unsustainable and will (and is) devastating property taxpayers. So folks, the peaceful logical, and legal way to get a consensus on the budget is to follow the petition guidelines outlined in Vt. Statutes.

Hopefully a far greater voter turn-out the second time around will "settle the field" one way or the other.

In the meantime, the petition is collecting signatures at Jefferson’s store and other places around town.
