RUHS Gal Ghosts Jump To a 6-0 Season
The RUHS softball team hosted U32 last Thursday and added another win to their record. The Ghosts beat the Raiders 9-0. Randolph was able to keep the Raiders from taking an early lead by picking up outs on the first three batters. Pitcher Arielle Dudek struck out the Raiders second batter. The Ghosts were unable to tally any runs in the first inning although three girls reached base. Randolph’s defense got three quick outs against the Raiders in the top of the second inning to keep the game scoreless. The Ghosts took the lead with two runs batted in off a home run from Kristen Grant. U-32 pitcher Katy Beam struck out the next two batters. The Raiders got girls on base in the third inning but were unable to earn any runs to shorten the Ghosts’ lead. RUHS held the Raiders to no runs again in the top of the fourth inning and then added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth when Arielle Dudek was walked and then scored the only run of the fourth inning off a bunt from Casey Hannah. The Ghosts kept the Raiders scoreless in the fifth inning with two outs on the first two batters and the third batter struck out. The Ghosts held the Raiders from scoring in the top of the sixth inning, and tallied four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kara Mullen had a grand slam for the Ghosts and Kelly Grant scored the final run for the Ghosts. Dudek pitched six innings with no runs, two hits, and four strikeouts. Bethany Davoll pitched one inning and had no runs and no hits. Beem gave up nine runs, nine hits, and had eight strikeouts for the Raiders. D.H. Wins for Gal Ghosts In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Lake Region, the Ghosts beat the Rangers by an overwhelming score. The Ghosts took a 7-0 lead in the first inning and continued to increase the lead throughout the game. The Ghosts added 10 more runs in the second inning to widen the scoring margin. In the third inning Kristen Grant scored a home run bringing in two runs. Kara Mullen added another home run and furthered the Ghosts lead. Arielle Dudek had a grand slam and Randolph tallied two more runs in the third inning. The Ghosts scored six more runs in the fourth inning and four more runs in the fifth inning. Dudek pitched one inning and had one strike out. Bethany Davoll pitched four innings and had three strikeouts. Lake Region’s Amanda Powell gave up 21 hits and had one strikeout. In the second game of the doubleheader the Rangers lost to the Ghosts 12-2. The Ghosts took an early 4-0 lead. Arielle Dudek reached base off an error, Kristen Grant and Casey Hannah were both walked, and Kelly Grant had a double and earned one run for the Ghosts. The Rangers tried to retaliate in the bottom of the first but with one girl on base Dudek struck out three batters. In the top of the second the Ghosts increased their lead to seven. Dudek, Kristen Grant, and Hannah all reached base and scored for the Ghosts. The Rangers offense was unable to tally any runs with the Ghosts picking up outs on the first three batters. RUHS added two more runs in the third inning from Chloe Sardonis and Genie Bent. Sardonis and Bent added two more runs again in the fourth along with Charlene Walko. The Rangers’ Anne DuFresne tallied two runs for the Rangers, one in the fourth and one again in the fifth inning. Dudek pitched four innings, gave up one run and had eight strikeouts. Bethany Davoll pitched one inning and gave up one run and had two walks. Torre Colburn gave up five hits, 12 runs, and had zero strikeouts. No Hitter For Dudek The Ghosts continued to increase their winning record with an 8-0 win over Division I Spaulding on Monday. Arielle Dudek pitched a no hitter. Dudek started the Ghosts off striking out the first Spaulding batter. RUHS batters were unable to score in the first two innings, but Casey Hannah hit a two run homer to give the Ghosts the lead in the third inning. The Crimson Tide were unable to earn any runs off hits to retaliate against the Ghosts, and RUHS continued to add to their lead in the fourth inning with nine batters scoring five runs. Chloe Sardonis added one more run for the Ghosts in the sixth inning. Sardonis’s diving catch to make the last out of the game saved Dudek’s no hitter along with some other great catches by the Ghost defense. Dudek pitched seven innings for the Ghosts. Katie Bancroft and Alisha Aldridge combined to give up eight runs, eight hits, and had no strikeouts. The Ghosts defeated Montpelier soundly on Tuesday and played at home against Oxbow today. They also play Saturday at Mt. Abraham at 4:30 p.m. J.V. Team, 2-0 The J.V. girls opened their season with two wins. On Monday Randolph defeated Spaulding away, 9-2. Chandra Keyes went the distance from the mound with eight K’s and five walks. Angie Wilber and Hillary Mason split the catching duties. Lindsay Patridge hit a triple and Amanda Gilman and Jess Simpson each had doubles. On Tuesday the J.V. squad defeated Montpelier at home. Keyes and Mason split the pitching, Keyes had five strike-outs and Mason two. April Allen and Keyes each had home runs, Jenn Hough and Jenn Cushing each had doubles. By Meghan Viens |
