Now that it has finally stopped snowing, it’s possible for us to believe that summer is upon us once again. Summer and summer vacation. The inevitable…what’s to do? Well, for folks ages 11-15, Lost Nation Theater will offer its popular Youth Theater Lab Theater Day Camps. In LNT’s Youth Theater Labs participants explore the craft of acting and have some "serious" fun. Workshops during the Lab include improvisation, voice and movement work, scene-study, developing original material, and more. It’s all designed to emphasize skill development within a supportive professional environment. Each Youth Theater Lab session also includes a tour and technical overview of Lost Nation Theater, attending a matinee performance of the current LNT show, and an informal presentation at the end of each session for family and friends. Lost Nation is offering three youth Theater sessions. Two are one-week sessions and are open to anyone who wants to attend. The third is a two-week session designed for more advanced or serious students of theater. Participation in Session Three is based upon prior participation or an audition. The program is designed so that interested students can take one, two, or all three sessions. A primary workshop leader develops each session with occasional guest artists dropping in. Response to the interests of each group ensures a diverse experience session to session. Shannon Hepburn, who was very active as a performer and theater educator in the professional theater scene in Baltimore prior to moving to Montpelier, has worked with LNT on its productions of "The Taming of the Shrew" and "Having Our Say." A favorite of last year’s Youth Theater Lab participants, she most recently guided the MHS Masque’s production of "The Bald Soprano" to the State One-Act Festival. Shannon is back this season to lead the first two Youth Theater Labs and direct "The Wizard of Oz." Anne Sisson, who comes to LNT from Vermont Stage Company in Burlington, is leading the two-week August Youth Theater Lab session. Anne has her MFA in Acting from Western Illinois University. Prior to her work with Vermont Stage Company, she toured nationally with Missoula Children’s Theatre, and has also appeared with the Summer Music Theater Company and Bloomsburg Players, in addition to her extensive work in theater education. Lost Nation’s Youth Theater Labs will be held Tuesday through Saturday June 26-30; July 24-28; and August 14-18 & 21-25. Times are 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. To register or for more information including fees and availability, contact Lost Nation’s Co-Artistic Directors Kim Bent or Kathleen Keenan at 802-229-0492.
