Twice This Year

I have been reading, in both weekly and daily papers, what I am calling political Acts of Contrition. Legislators trying to explain and justify their recent session knowing full well they have angered the voters.

We do not live in a democracy. We live in a representative republic. Our senators and representatives were quick to dismiss town meeting votes on the issue of civil union as nothing but the ranting of the unenlightened masses.

Well, to the politicos I offer this. Vermont will celebrate Independence Day twice this year. July 4th and again on November 7th, election day.
